Brunos pappa är en tysk soldat (kommendant) och furiren har gett honom ett "ärofyllt" arbete med att jobba i Auschwitz. Bruno trivs verkligen inte i sitt nya hem och längtar dagligen tillbaka till sitt hem i Berlin. Från ett fönster i huset i Berlin kunde Bruno se ut över hela staden, men det enda Bruno kunde se från fönstret i sitt nya hem var ett högt stängsel av taggtråd, baracker och människor i randiga pyjamaser. Förfataren berättar i slutet av boken att han valde att skriva boken ur en naiv, nioårig pojkes ögon, eftersom han menar att det är ända sättet att skriva en rättvis berättelse om det fruktansvärda som pågick på vår jord under denna tid.
Jag har sett filmen också. Som en recension kommer på om en snar framtid. Något som jag lade märke till var att filmen var ganska tydlig med vilka personer som var "snälla" respektive "onda" tillskillnad från boken där det fanns fler grånyanser och allt inte var svart och vitt. (Även om det var ganska självklart där med). Men både filmen och boken är väldigt lika varandra och jag rekommenderar dem starkt för er!
Självklart känns det speciellt att läsa en bok när man vet att den baseras på verkliga händelser. Framförallt händelser som är en skam för vår historia, men dock så viktig att komma ihåg. Jag har själv varit i Polen och besökt Auschwitz, Getton och andra ställen relaterade till detta. Jag kan bara säga att jag är glad att jag upplevt det och är en av de personer som kan vittna om att detta hemska ställe faktiskt existerat. (Med tanke på att människor faktiskt förnekar förintelsen. Om det ändå hade varit så väl.)
Hur som helst. Boken är egentligen inte så hemsk, och jag tror den skulle passa bra att läsa för lite mindre barn om man vill läsa något om förintelsen, men tycker att mycket av de böcker som finns är för hemska. Den här boken är hemsk den med, men det är delar man måste ha med för att göra en rättvis berättelse om detta.
Boken är bra och hemsk. Det är spännande att läsa från ett barns perspektiv och se hur han kämpar för att förstå. Han älskar sin pappa och vill tro det han säger, men när Bruno själv träffat en person som motsäger sig allt hans pappa berättat och står för, hur ska då en liten pojke kunna avgöra vilket som är det rätta?
Det är dock svårt att betygsätta en bok som jag önskar att jag kunnat de 5/5. Men även om den är bra, så är tyvärr språket för enkelt och handlingen är tyvärr lite förr simpel. Jag har till exempel svårt att tro att Bruno alls skulle ha möjlighet att prata med Shmuel. Dessutom tror jag inte att Shmuel ens skulle ha möjlighet att gå ifrån sitt arbete. Men vad vet jag? Det är endast min uppfattning av det som hände och jag ska väl inte bedöma en bok utifrån hur verklighetstrogen den är. Läs den i vilket fall, den är bra!
